Lizz is the Studio Director at Mudstone Studios in Wareham, where she brings together her background in media, marketing, and a lifelong love of the creative process. A graduate of Fitchburg State University with a degree in Communications Media, Lizz blends her eye for design with a passion for community building — keeping the studio organized, inspired, and thriving.

Always willing to help members and students, Lizz works to make the studio a welcoming and supportive space where creativity can flourish. When she’s not managing the studio, you’ll likely find her at the wheel experimenting with form and surface, or behind a camera capturing the artistry of Mudstone’s members.

Jessica Mathews began her art journey at the Memphis College of Art and Design as a graphic designer/illustrator before discovering her true passion in sculpture, focusing on      ceramics. During her studies, she worked as a studio assistant and community arts teacher, gaining hands-on experience teaching both children and adults in digital arts and ceramics. After moving to Massachusetts, she pursued her M.Ed. in special education at Bridgewater State University. Today, she is a licensed teacher in Massachusetts with certifications in fine arts, special education, English, and family and consumer sciences. At Hingham High School, Jessica currently teaches Foods and Nutrition, Global Foods, and Interior Design, where she fosters students' creativity and practical skills. In her spare time, she has returned to the studio, refining her craft and reconnecting with her love of  making. She is excited to share her expertise and inspire others in the world of ceramics.

​Rose Thorn has been practicing fine arts for the past 17 years, but first discovered their passion for ceramics in 2018. Through designing their own Fine Art major curriculum in high school and studying at MassArt, Rose Thorn practiced dozens of different mediums, techniques, and art styles, but all it took was a single three-week beginner ceramics course at a small community studio to get them hooked on clay. Now you can find them at the Wareham Mudstone studio almost every day, typically throwing on the wheel, and occasionally taking on sculptural projects or large scale hand built vessels. Keeping an element of whimsy about their pieces, Rose Thorn’s bawdy and cheeky style blurs the line between obscene and endearing. 

Grace fell in love with ceramics in high school, where she found herself spending every moment of free time in the studio. She went on to study Child Development and Psychology in college, but stumbled upon a ceramics studio post grad and fell right back in love. At her former ceramics studio, Grace enjoyed teaching both youth and adult classes in wheel throwing and hand building. She is currently finishing her Master’s Degree to become a Pediatric Speech Language Pathologist and has a passion for working with children with special needs. Grace is thrilled to be back in the studio and is eager to share her love of pottery with her students! 

Vanessa has always been one to experiment with the creative arts since childhood. But really took a deeper interest in the arts when she discovered oil painting in high school. Four years ago, Vanessa picked up clay for the first time and fell in love. She brings the relaxed, free, and cozy feel that oil painting taught her to work with clay. Passionate about serving and participating in her community, Vanessa loves educating and helping people discover their passions. She is excited to continue her learning alongside her students. When she is not at the studio, you can find her at home enjoying her garden, at flea markets and antique stores, or snuggled up with her cats Frank and Charlie.
