Learn the basics on the wheel during this 6-week class for beginners. Ian will take students from centering and making simple forms through trimming and glazing. Students can expect to complete around 7-10 pieces during this 6 week class.

INTERMEDIATE WHEEL CLASS

Mondays, Jan 2 - Feb 6,  6-9PM

This 6 week course in wheel throwing will expand your level of expertise. Students will work on making more consistent shapes, adding handles and possibly lids, perhaps some closed forms. Ian will gauge where the class wants to take it and work with students in creating more refined works.

SLIP DECORATED CUPS

with Gill Travers

2 weeks, Saturdays Jan 7-14, 1-4pm

A quick and easy class, especially great for beginners! Students will be shown how to make up to 2 cups using pinch pots and coils. The instructor will demonstrate how to create unique feet and how to pull handles. While our handles dry we will decorate our cups using colored slips. Week 2 students will be instructed on how to glaze.

TEENS AND 20'S ON THE WHEEL

Sundays, Jan 15-Feb 19, 10 AM-12:30 PM

This class is open to teens and 20's. Ava will take students through the basics of wheel throwing, starting with centering and forming simple forms, then trimming and glazing. Students can expect to make several simple pottery pieces during this 6-week class.

FISH PLATES

with Rose Esson-Dawson and Ellen Blomgren

Two Wednesdays, Jan 11-18, 1-4 PM

This 2 week workshop will teach you a very specific glazing technique in transparent, cone 6 glazes. Students can expect to make one plate or platter as well as one or two small dishes. The class will use paintable latex, so please do not sign up for this class if you have an allergy to latex!

MAKING BETTER BOWLS

Wednesdays, Jan 11-Feb 15, 9 AM-12 PM

Learn to make your bowl better! Now that you have a class or two under your belt, Rose can show you a few techniques that will help you make even nicer bowls. Make a set of nesting bowls, dessert bowls, soup bowls...Students can expect to make 7-10 beautiful bowls during this 6-week class.

WINTER PENGUIN RAKU

1 day, Sunday, Jan 15, 12-5pm

Glaze your own penguin and take it home the same day! Pieces can take 1-2 hours to be finished & cool to take home. Students are welcome to stay during the downtime or leave to eat etc. and return later for their penguin friends!

FAIRY HOUSES

with Ava Mascena

Tuesdays, Jan 17-31, 6-9 PM

Create magical dwellings for garden creatures during this 3-week, clay workshop. Participants will use slab construction for the most part and will learn several decorative techniques in texturing and glazing. The finished pieces will be fired to vitrification, making them safe for the outdoors year-round. This class is for adults!

Learn several surface decorative techniques during this very informative, 6-week class. Learn about, underglazes, slips and engobes as well as glazes and resists. This class is highly recommended for members of the studio! Be prepared for homework!

HAND-BUILDING BASICS

Saturdays Jan 21-Feb 25, 1-4 PM

This class is a great fit for anyone who wants an introduction to using clay off the wheel. We will focus on projects that use pinching, slabs, molds, and coils to establish a foundation of useful clay skills. The goal of the class is to make students proficient and comfortable in using clay and glazing work made through hand forming methods.

At Mudstone Studios, our artist instructors create a well rounded experience for students of all levels. Take a beginner class in hand-building with Ellen Blomgren. Enjoy a variety of visiting artists from the region when we offer intensive workshops.
