Service Description
This class will explore plaster mold making for slip casting. Students will make 2 to 3 plaster molds. We will make one piece “dump” molds and two-part plaster molds. Details for first class: Think about objects you are interested in casting. Our first class will be demonstrations and pouring slip in molds I will provide. We will walk through the process of mixing and pouring plaster and the many properties of casting slip. Objects for casting should be shoebox size or smaller and relatively simple in form. Original clay works should be leather hard or bisque ware. Materials to be cast can be made of clay, plastic, wood, rubber……..We will discuss undercuts and how to fill or avoid them. Second class: We will begin the mold making process. Prerequisite: A general understanding of ceramics
