Service Description

Our two-week Summer Clay Camp invites children ages 8-14 to explore clay art inspired by nature, the sea, and fossils. Running weekdays, 1:00–4:00 pm, campers will learn key building techniques, experiment with surface decoration, and finish their work with unique Raku firing. Every child will create meaningful, personal pieces while gaining hands-on experience in ceramics. Week 1: Building & Surface Techniques Monday: Pinch pots—discover clay’s possibilities through simple forms inspired by organic shapes. Tuesday: Coil building—craft sea creatures and vessels using the coil method. Wednesday: Slab building—explore textures and fossil impressions with found objects. Thursday: Combine techniques—create imaginative ‘fossil’ pieces, blending skills learned so far. Friday: Slip decoration & carving—add color, patterns, and personal symbols to work. Week 2: Decorating, Glazing & Raku Monday: Special sculpting—build new works for Raku firing later in the week. Tuesday: Underglaze & glaze—decorate bisque-fired pieces from Week 1. Wednesday: Raku glaze application—prepare Monday’s sculptures for Raku. Thursday: Raku firing—see the dramatic transformation of your pieces. Friday: Group show, critique, and celebration—share your finished art and celebrate with friends. Materials & Safety Low fire clay, underglazes, non-toxic materials, and basic tools provided. All kiln use and firings are supervised by experienced staff. Campers follow simple safety rules and use protective gear as needed. Final Exhibition The camp concludes with a group show and celebration, where all participants display their creations, share stories behind their work, and enjoy a festive end to their clay adventure.
