Service Description
Intermediate Wheel Throwing Ready to take your wheel skills to the next level? This intermediate class is designed for potters who are comfortable centering clay and want to expand their technical abilities and creative approach on the wheel. Throughout the course, we’ll focus on developing more control, efficiency, and confidence while throwing. Students will explore throwing off the hump to create multiples and smaller forms quickly, as well as working with larger amounts of clay to build bigger, more substantial pieces. We’ll also work on techniques to increase throwing height and weight, helping you push the limits of your forms while maintaining strong structure and balance. In addition to refining your forms, this class will introduce more skilled surface design techniques, allowing you to incorporate texture, carving, and decorative elements directly into your work. Students will also learn the fundamentals of creating lidded pieces, including proper measuring, gallery construction, and lid fitting. This class is a great opportunity to strengthen your technical foundation while experimenting with more complex forms and design approaches. Prerequisite: Students must already be comfortable centering clay and throwing basic forms such as cylinders or bowls.
