CLASSES

We offer a variety of classes for beginners, intermediates, and masters of their art in

pottery, hand building, sculpture, glazing, and more!

*any students signing up for summer classes must be vaccinated against covid19. We are planning comfortable, safe and mask-less summer classes. All of our teachers are fully vaccinated and seating is still positioned 6 feet apart. 

Cancellation policy:

Students must withdraw from class at least 2 weeks prior to class start for a full refund, unless we can fill your spot.

FISH PLATES

with Rose Esson-Dawson and Ellen Blomgren

Guided on the first day by Rose, students will create plates, butter dishes and/or olive trays using fish as a design platform. Students can expect to create one platter and a small side dish or two. On day 2, and guided by Ellen, students will mask and glaze these items with bright,vibrant colors. Latex will be used as a resist. Wax can be used if you have an allergy.

POTTERY FOR KIDS (AGES 12-16)

Your child (ages 12-16) will learn the basics of making pottery on the wheel during the hands on, 5-week class. Start with centering and creating simple forms. Then learn to trim and glaze. students can expect to complete several functional forms.

INTERMEDIATE WHEEL-THROWING

Take your pottery to the next level during this 6-week session. Ian will guide students in more refined processes in pottery making, polishing your skills.

Mondays, Jan 3- February 7, 6-9:pm

Student may sign up for open studio times to practice

BEGINNERS ON THE WHEEL

With Adam Ferbert

Learn how to use the pottery wheel to make functional works in clay. Adam will guide students through 6 weeks of centering, creating bowls and other simple shapes, trimming and glazing.

HANDBUILDING

Make several fun and functional pieces for the table in this 6 week, class. Learn to pinch form, attach, use coil and slab techniques and more!

PORCELAIN LIGHT VESSELS

with Gill Travers

Learn to make light vessels with hand-built translucent porcelain! This incredible clay will glow in thin or exposed areas after firing. Students will create 2 candle holders, 1 large carved light vessel, and 1-3 med-large functioning light vessels. Students will learn carving, painting, and texture effects on porcelain.

HANDBUILDING FLORA

with Gill Travers

Explore clay off the wheel! Students will learn to hand-build flowers, fruits, trees, and mushrooms. We will focus on 3 projects: leaf-plates, a tree-trunk container, a large free-standing tree or flower basket. Students will learn hand-building techniques such as slabs, coils, and other methods of decoration.

COLORED CLAY PLATES

with Gill Travers

Explore this unique clay experience! We will use porcelain mixed with non-toxic colorants to create vibrant colors within the claybody. Students will handbuild up to 2 experimental plates, and 1-2 medium or large plates. Students will learn to create a repeatable pattern, soft gradients, and hangable plates in this class. Projects may be functional or decorative.

At Mudstone Studios, our artist instructors create a well rounded experience for students of all levels. Take a beginner class in hand-building or pottery making with Hannah Powers or Ellen Blomgren. Learn the basics or take your skill to the next level with Ian Buchbinder or Rose Esson-Dawson. Get really technical with Gill Travers or Wayne Fuerst. Enjoy a variety of visiting artists from the region when we offer intensive workshops.
