We offer a variety of classes for beginners, intermediates, and masters of their art in

pottery, hand building, sculpture, glazing, and more!

CREATE YOUR OWN PIPE

Learn how to create smoking pipes. Pottery experience is helpful but not necessary. Students can expect to create 1-3 pipes. If you would like to attach a crystal or another small object onto the pipe(s), make sure you bring the object(s) with you the first class.

CERAMIC PUMPKINS & JACK-O-LANTERNS

Tired of cleaning out pumpkins year after year? Join us for this 2 week workshop to learn how to make realistic-looking pumpkins with stems, vines, and leaves that will last for years. Students can expect to make 1 medium size pumpkin, as well as several small ones.

MARKETING FOR ARTISTS

Learn how to promote your craft business during this 2 day workshop. Develop a step by step plan with working artist, Hannah Powers. Learn all about the basics of Instagram, Facebook, email marketing, branding, and finding your niche. Then take it to the next step. Learn about hashtags and exactly how to use them, how to write a captivating caption, and how to plan your posts. Bring your laptops/ smart phones/ tablets & get ready to learn!

INTRO TO MAKING POTTERY

Learn the basics of making pottery on the wheel during the hands on, 6-week class. Start with centering and creating simple forms. Then learn to trim and glaze. students can expect to complete several functional forms.

RAKU SCULPTURE FOR BEGINNERS

With Gil Travers

Join us for a 3-week sculpture workshop where you can learn to create sculptural forms for a Raku firing. Raku is a special type of reduction firing which draws out splendid rainbow effects from glazes, and encourages spectacular crackling patterns. Students will be shown how to use slab construction to create either a house, lantern, teapot, flower, or mushroom. Great for beginner sculptors & students who want to broaden their ceramic experience! 


Participation on firing day is encouraged, but not mandatory.

DAY OF THE DEAD SUGAR SKULL WORKSHOP

Using bright acrylic colors, students will paint a bisque fired skull in the festive style of the Isla de los muertos in  Mexico. This is a one day workshop. Students can take their skulls home with them at the end of class!

HOLIDAY ORNAMENTS

Thinking of giving out hand-made gifts this year instead of Black Friday shopping? In this workshop we will experiment with clay stamps for texture, lettering, and patterns in order to create unique gifts for the upcoming holiday season. Students can expect to create several ornaments of their choosing, and may bring textures or stamps from home.

At Mudstone Studios, our artist instructors create a well rounded experience for students of all levels. Take a beginner class in hand-building or pottery making with Hannah Powers or Ellen Blomgren. Learn the basics or take your skill to the next level with Ian Buchbinder or Rose Esson-Dawson. Get really technical with Gil Traverse or Wayne Fuerst. Enjoy a variety of visiting artists from the region when we offer intensive workshops.
