Intro to Making Pottery

Start from the beginning and learn to center, make basic forms, trim and glaze during this informative, 6 week session. Students can expect to make several finished pieces to take home. Space is limited so sign up early to save your space in class!

Glazing Fundamentals: 3 Classes in 1 with Wayne Fuerst
Making test tiles and great shapes and textures for testing glazes. This session will focus on the best ways to explore the behaviors of glazes. Several surface techniques will be explored as well as making test tiles for the next 2 sessions.
2 weeks October 1 & 8, 6-9PM $100
Glaze chemistry, a crash course. Students will work in pairs to create line blends using the basic ingredients of glazes. Test tiles will be needed for this session, bring your own or take session 2 as well.
2 weeks October 15 & 22, 6-9PM $100
Glaze application, learn the do's and don'ts for successful glazing. Students will learn dipping, pouring, trailing and brushing along with layering and note taking. This is a must have in every potter's tool bag. Test tiles for our wall of colors will be provided but you'll need your own test pieces for experimentation.
2 weeks October 29 & November 5, 6-9PM $100

Day of the Dead Party Skeletons
With Ellen Blomgren
Create traditional style Dia de Los Muertos skeleting figures using pre-measured pieces. Students will use colored slips and stains to decorate. Pieces will be fired and ready to either glaze or pick up the next week.

Fish Platters with Rose Esson- Dawson and Ellen Blomgren
Students will make a large fish platter as well as a small practice one or two in this intensive, two week workshop. On week one, led by Rose, students will roll slabs, texture and create a fish platter in clay
On week two, Ellen will guide students in using glazes and latex resist to achieve an aquatic look. All fired pieces can be picked up after the Thanksgiving holiday.

Wheel Throwing for Beginners and Intermediates with Rose Esson Dawson
Learn to make pottery using the potter's wheel during this 6-week class. Beginners are welcome, but Rose can give students with more experience some more advanced instruction as well. Each students can expect to create several pieces from clay to glaze at their own skill level.
October 1- November 5
Tuesday Mornings 9AM-12PM

Ceramics <3’s Light with Gill Travers
Students will be introduced to creating a ceramic artwork that responds to light in an interesting and thoughtful manner. We will experiment with different types of clays, alternative light sources, and mixed media that alters light in the first 2 weeks of class. The following 4 weeks will see the students design and create a finished sculpture or vessel with multiple facets that respond to light. Open to intermediate and experienced clay students.

Leave Your Mark with Andrew Nasser
Create your own, memorable signature stamp to mark your work. Make a clay cutter as well for holiday ornaments or handles, etc. Andrew will lead students through conceptualize and prepare graphics for 3-D printing. Come with sketched out ideas and end up with finished designs that will be fabricated off site by Andrew.
Thursday November 7 6:30-9PM
$40 includes finished stamps delivered to the studio within 2 weeks
Next Step Wheel Throwing with Ian Buchbinder
This class is for those who have had a class or two in the past and want a refresher or want to step up to the next level. Students will talk about composition and form as well as learn some more advanced techniques and will be able to branch off in their own direction.
