We offer a variety of classes for beginners, intermediates, and masters of their art in

pottery, hand building, sculpture, glazing, and more!

*any students signing up for summer classes must be vaccinated against covid19. We are planning comfortable, safe and mask-less summer classes. All of our teachers are fully vaccinated and seating is still positioned 6 feet apart. 

Cancellation policy:

Students must withdraw from class at least 2 weeks prior to class start for a full refund, unless we can fill your spot.

SCULPTED PET PORTRAITS

Immortalize Fido in clay during this 4-week class in making sculpted pet portraits. Students can expect to make one bookend size sculpture or two smaller figurines. No experience needed!

$170 includes clay, glazes and firings

MAKING SETS ON THE POTTERY WHEEL

What constitutes a set? Join Rose Esson-Dawson as she guides makers through a variety of considerations clay artists should question when making sets. Types of sets include: Mugs, cruets, salt and pepper as well as trays (if time permits).

Tuesdays, June 15-July 20, 9AM-12PM

BEGINNER POTTERY

Learn to make pottery on the wheel! This 6-week class will go over all the basics of making simple dishes using the potter's wheel. From centering, to trimming, to glazing, students can expect to complete several basic pieces.

Wednesdays, June 16- July 21 9AM-12PM

INTRO TO MAKING POTTERY

Learn the basics of making pottery on the wheel during the hands on, 6-week class. Start with centering and creating simple forms. Then learn to trim and glaze. students can expect to complete several functional forms.

INTERMEDIATE WHEEL-THROWING

If you have a couple of pottery classes under your belt and feel ready to take it to the next level, this class is for you. Ian will guide students in what makes a better piece. Students can expect to bring home several well finished works during this very in depth, 6 week class.

Wednesdays, June 30- August 4, 6-9PM

SCULPTED BUSTS

Using several studio tools, students will learn first to create a blank bust and then transform it into the person they choose. Bring printed pictures of front and sides for reference. These will get dirty so nothing too precious!

KIDS SUMMER CLASSES

For ages 7-12. Your child will experiment different techniques using the pottery wheel and hand building exercises during this 3 week session on Mondays and Thursdays. 

Week 1- pottery wheel

Week 2- hand building

Week 3- glazing

Mondays and Thursdays from 10AM-12PM

July 19 + 22, 26 + 29, August 2 + 6

WOOD-FIRING OFF SITE IN WESTPORT

This 6-visit class will result in beautiful wood-fired pieces. All students must have bisque fired pieces made with cone 10 clay bodies. A picture of your clay label will be required. 

Saturday Sept 18 10AM- 1 Wood prep

Sunday, Sept 19 9AM-12PM glaze

Saturday, Sept 23 2-6PM load kiln

Sat&Sun sept 25/26 fire the kiln

MARKETING FOR ARTISTS COACHING SESSIONS

Meet with working artist Hannah Powers of Seize the Clay Studios for a one on one coaching session. Hannah grew her Instagram following from 400 followers in March 2020 to recently hitting 25,000 followers with over 1,000 sales between her own website seizetheclaystudios.com & Etsy etsy.com/shop/seizetheclaystudios. She is a Bridgewater State University arts and marketing graduate that is passionate about helping you take your arts business to the next step. These sessions are tailored to you and your businesses’ needs (no matter how small or large).


If you have developed your skill and want to learn how to promote your craft business to a larger audience, these coaching sessions are for you


Hannah has experience in Etsy, website design, sales, marketing (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, Email), branding, finding your niche, hashtags, how to write a captivating caption, how to plan out your posts (set it & forget it), content creation, shipping orders globally, etc. 

Pick between half hour or hour sessions.

At Mudstone Studios, our artist instructors create a well rounded experience for students of all levels. Take a beginner class in hand-building or pottery making with Hannah Powers or Ellen Blomgren. Learn the basics or take your skill to the next level with Ian Buchbinder or Rose Esson-Dawson. Get really technical with Gil Traverse or Wayne Fuerst. Enjoy a variety of visiting artists from the region when we offer intensive workshops.
